To Anyone and Everyone –
Hi, I’m Rita Hueston. I go by a lot of names, including Potato, which appears to be popular even though I have absolutely no idea how I even got that name. Currently, I am finishing up my senior year in high school, which, at this point, I am more than ready to leave, even at the expense of the consequential freefall into the abyss of the unknown, i.e. college. However, despite my relative youth, I feel I am very well traveled when compared to my peers – I have travelled in France, Italy, Spain, and even Morocco, if just for a little while. I have a sort of vital addiction to knowledge and exploration, and even if I’m deathly nervous about something for months ahead of time, I know I’ll enjoy whatever comes my way.
The three things that I couldn’t live without (other than family and close friends of course because that’s just unfair) are horses, books, and music. Horses ground me, provide a rhythm for my heartbeat, and can cheer me up in the face of anything that’s thrown at me. Books create small, temporary wormholes into which I am hurled headlong and sometimes can’t crawl back out of. Some – but not all – of the works of literature that have caught me and never let me go are Harry Potter, the Daughter of Smoke and Bone Trilogy, Inkheart Trilogy, the Scorpio Races, Hamlet (although anything by Shakespeare is pure brilliance), and (I must admit it) The Fault in Our Stars. And music? I like all genres. Literally. If I listen to something, even if I have to come back to it in three weeks or three months, I will eventually like it. I’m especially attracted to interesting chord progressions, no matter how they’re used – I suppose it has to do with my upbringing in classical music.
I am also a big fan of a lot of TV shows, namely Doctor Who, Once Upon a Time, the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and Game of Thrones. I speak English, but know French and Spanish fluently. I am currently attempting to learn at least six other languages which is possibly an impossible yet rewarding task.
I don’t know what I’ll do with my life but I know I’ll find my way around just fine.
